Grow Herbs In Terra Cotta Strawberry Pot

Upright, terra cotta strawberry pots make perfect pots for growing a variety of different herbs in a small space. A terra cotta strawberry pot planted with herbs is also an eye pleasing way to show off those herbs and makes a beautiful focal point for porch, patio or flower garden.

The only draw back to growing herbs in a terra cotta strawberry pot is that terra cotta dries out easily. That problem can be solved by taking a narrow piece of PVC pipe that is longer than the terra cotta strawberry pot is tall, and drilling several holes in it down the entire length of the PVC pipe. Place the perforated PVC pipe into the center of the terra cotta strawberry pot, then fill the strawberry pot with planting soil. Water and feed your herbs through the perforated PVC pipe to ensure water and food are reaching all the way down to the bottom herbs growing in your strawberry pot.

When you plant herbs in the sides of the terra cotta strawberry pot, place the root ball of the herbs slightly below the hole and firm the soil around the root ball. This will prevent the soil from washing out of the hole when the herbs are watered.

Fill the side openings of the terra cotta strawberry pot with small cascading herbs or bushy growing herbs like sweet marjoram, thyme, lavender, creeping rosemary or oregano.

The top opening of the terra cotta strawberry pot is perfect for planting mound shaped herbs like parsley, basil or sage.

A terra cotta strawberry pot can be used for growing herbs year around, indoors and outdoors.
